Discover the art of weaving with artist educator, Melissa Mills, and create your very own wearable artwork; a pair of unique, handmade earrings. In this guided workshop, you’ll learn how to combine contemporary materials with time-honoured techniques to produce pieces that are not only beautiful, but also rich with cultural resonance. Open to everyone from the curious beginner to the experienced weaver, this immersive experience invites participants to slow down, connect with their hands, and engage in a creative process rooted in the values of patience, story, and identity. Weaving, as practiced in this context, becomes more than a craft. Transforming into a conversation between tradition and innovation, self and Country.

Melissa is an artist and photographer whose cultural inheritance is the innate connection and grounding she has with her Ancestral homelands of the Ghungulu, Karingbal/Garingbal and Bidjara Peoples of the Central Queensland regions. Her work is deeply informed by a lineage of makers, storytellers, and custodians of Country. Through her teaching, Melissa shares not only technical skills but also the cultural knowledge and respect embedded in her practice. With a gentle, open-hearted approach, she creates space for reflection and reconnection, encouraging participants to see weaving as an act of mindfulness and cultural appreciation. Every workshop she leads is infused with a sense of belonging, one that honours both individual creativity and collective heritage.
