Join us for the final unbound Book Club!
unbound Series XI takes a close look at the relationship Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have with land and with each other. Through the lenses of land management and sport, Series XI brings readers stories of many battles fought by First Nations people to care for land over generations and from all over the continent.
Personal Score, written by award-winning author Ellen van Neerven, is their account of “sport’s troubled relationship with race, gender and sexuality – and question what it means to play sport on stolen, sovereign land, especially in the midst of multiple environmental crises.”
Meanwhile, The Shield and the Spear by Joe Fox, is “a journey through historic Indigenous rights battles such as the Noonkanbah blockade in 1979, the formation of the Kimberley Aboriginal Law and Culture Centre (KALACC) and the Kimberley Language Resource Centre (KLRC) in 1984; the formation of Magabala Books in 1987; and the controversial James Price Point gas hub.”
Both publications are insightful accounts of recent First Nations histories intended to provide readers with a more informed understanding of current issues and ideas. This is your last opportunity to take part in unbound Book Club at RMOA - don't miss out!
Tickets:
- Book pack (includes admission): $45.00
