Traditional Chinese Painting | with Ping Carlyon

In this relaxing workshop you will be introduce to the four main tools (4 treasures of study) that are required in  Chinese painting - paper, ink, brushes and inkstone. Carlyon will then demonstrate traditional techniques and assist you to create an original artwork to  take home or gift to a loved one.

About Ping Carlyon

Carlyon is born in Taiwan and studied visual art and art education at University of Taipei completing her Bachelor before moving to Gladstone, Australia in 2007. Carlyon's specialty is watercolour and over the years has developed her own style calling it “ribbon”.

Carlyon’s work has been recognized in many art awards, such as Paint the Port and Brigalow Arts Festival Awards.  Carlyon has received prizes in the  Martin Hanson Memorial Art Awards in 2017, in the Bundaberg Art Show in 2020, first overall prize at the 1770 Art Show in 2021 and 2022

Carlyon also has experience in Illustrating books, and the Boyne Tannum Hook Up fishing shirts. Carlyon has done art projects with Regional Arts Development Fund-Art Queensland , including a portraits exhibition in 2020 at the Gladstone Art Gallery, Our Shining Stars.  Ping created an artist in residence Fly into Art which is 8 months showcase in the Gladstone Airport terminal in 2021 supported by the RADF as well.

Other then her own practice in Art, Ping opened an art studio- Studio Ping. had been teaching kids and adults watercolour in Gladstone region.
