RMOA has commissioned three Australian South Sea Islander writers to craft essays for South Sea Islanders: The Right of Reply project in conjunction with current exhibition, Cane.
Join us for a panel discussion with the three writers about their commissioned essays. With strong links to Rockhampton and Joskeleigh, the writers lay out their arguments on the position of South Sea Islanders in local and international histories.
South Sea Islanders: The Right of Reply project recognises that museums and galleries can be limited or slow to respond to difficult issues and situations. The writers respond as subject matter experts observing how South Sea Islanders are perceived, if at all, in the collective memory of institutions such as regional art galleries, museums, archives and libraries.
Tickets for this program are free. There is an option to purchase a contribution ticket at $5.00 or $10.00 for those who have capacity and wish to support audience engagement and learning programs at RMOA. If you select a contribution ticket, there's no need to also select an admission ticket (selecting both will reserve two places).
