About Simon Locke
For the past seven years, Locke has been refining his ceramic practice, creating work that is both decorative and functional. Locke is drawn to the interplay of pattern and form, with a particular love for spots and stripes—motifs that bring rhythm, contrast, and a sense of movement to his pieces.
Working from his home studio at Lily Creek, Locke explores the possibilities of clay, with spherical vessels as a recurring theme in his practice. Their rounded forms offer a sense of balance and continuity, while his surface designs celebrate decoration and craftsmanship. Whether bold or subtle, his pieces maintain the functionality that makes ceramics a part of everyday life.
Recognition as the winner of the 2024 Brigalow Arts Festival and a finalist in Ceramic Arts Queensland’s Siliceous competition in 2025 has affirmed Locke's commitment to his craft. Locke was recently awarded 1st prize in the 3D arts section at the Brigalow Arts 2025.
As his practice continues to evolve, he remains dedicated to creating ceramics that invite joy, curiosity, and connection through both their aesthetic appeal and their usefulness.
