Rockhampton Museum of Art appoints new Director

Over the past few weeks, many of you may have already met Peter Denham as he has settled into his new role as Director of the Rockhampton Museum of Art.

Since joining RMOA in early August, Peter has been getting to know the Museum, exploring the collection, meeting with artists, Traditional Owners, supporters, stakeholders and community members, and experiencing firsthand the creativity that makes our region so unique.

With more than 30 years' experience across Australia's museum, gallery and cultural sectors, Peter brings a wealth of knowledge, leadership and vision to RMOA. His career has included senior roles with Queensland Museum, Powerhouse Museum Sydney, Museum of Brisbane, Queensland Art Gallery, Cairns Regional Gallery, Art Exhibitions Australia and the National Gallery of Victoria.

Reflecting on his first few weeks in Rockhampton, Peter said: "I've been incredibly welcomed by the community and have already had the opportunity to meet so many passionate people who care deeply about arts and culture. The Museum of Art has earned a strong reputation as one of Australia's leading regional art museums, and I'm excited to work with the team and our community to build on that success."

As Director, Peter will focus on expanding audience engagement, strengthening the Museum's nationally significant collection, supporting artistic excellence and ensuring the Museum of Art continues to make a positive contribution to the social, cultural and economic prosperity of the Rockhampton Region.
