About the Artist Educator

Michelle Taranto is an emerging Australian artist based on Darumbal Country in Yeppoon, Central Queensland, and enjoys sharing her passion for painting through workshops. Taranto's work is colourful, joyous and energetic, ranging from abstract plant art to expressive dog portraits and sometimes whimsical combinations of both.

Taranto is inspired by the rainbow palette of Latin America where she travelled as a young woman and also draws inspiration for her artworks from her hundreds of tropical houseplants and cacti collection, her beloved Black Labrador, Tobi, and her Chihuahuas, Pablo, Paloma and Chiquita.

Taranto’s debut solo exhibition in 2023 at Yeppoon’s Fig Tree Galleries, Happy at Home, was a phenomenal success. In the same year, Taranto created her art business, Arco Iris Interiors, where she offers colourful original artworks and hopes to expand into fashion and interior design to cater for those who love colourful, eclectic and maximalist style and decor. 2023 also saw Taranto win first prize for the Easel Works Section of the Martin Hanson Art Awards, GRAGM, for her self-portrait titled Modern Mother.
