About the Artist Educator

Veronika Zeil was born in 1967 in Garmisch–Partenkirchen, Germany and emigrated to Australia in 1990.  She has studied science and participated in many field studies of native animal ecology projects. Together with her husband Professor John Rolfe she has run the family cattle station from 1990 until 2006. She has worked as a graphic designer for 1800 Prints in Emerald and as a rural journalist for the Central Queensland Rural Weekly at the Morning Bulletin. As a visual artist she has created paintings, drawings, sculptures, multimedia works and mosaics for most of her life.

In 2011 she was admitted to Monash University and graduated in 2013 with a Master of Visual Art from Monash University. Regular attendance of painting and mosaic masterclasses with highly acclaimed artists in Australia, Germany, United States and Italy are a way of keeping abreast of developments in contemporary arts and networking with other artists.

Tuning into the language of nature and motivating new ethical terms for our natural world is the aim of Zeil’s multimedia visual art practice. Zeil‘s artworks evolve around concepts from nature and ecology. The artist uses scientific insights as a starting point for developing semi abstract drawings, paintings, photographs, installation and multimedia works.

Veronika exhibits widely in solo and group exhibitions and her work is included in collections in Regional Queensland Shires, Queensland Regional Art Galleries, Central Queensland University Rockhampton, and numerous private Australian and German collections. She has won many prizes in nationwide art competitions.
